Magazines From The Future

January 1, 2009 · Posted in magazine · Comment

Why do magazines always come out a month before the actual month? Im buying January’s magazine when its the beginning of December. If you think about it the editors are designing a magazine for January all the way back in November.

Most of the time im reading about a rumor that the writer says, “will never come true.” Lets say we read that in a July magazine which would make it actually June. Now when July actually comes around the rumor has come to life and it did come true. So now you have the writer’s article become old news in a magazine that was suppose to be for that month.

Is it really so hard to just stop and produce two different magazines but for the same month. That way the magazines can catch up to the correct month. If we don’t act now it could end up two months.

Idea: Social Digital Camera

January 1, 2009 · Posted in idea · Comment

These are ideas of mine are just that, mine. I am more than glad if you use them. All I ask is for you to give me some credit where it is due. Thanks.

This idea is for a digital point-and-shoot camera. A small compact camera that lets tourists, newcomers, even your grandparents get into photography for the “money shots.”

The hardware consists of a digital camera with a gps chip in it. Every time you take a picture it records your exact location and time of day. The data is then recorded into the metadata.

When the pictures are uploaded onto the computer you then have the option of selecting your “money shots” to add to the website for this. The public can view photos based on location (anywhere from state, city, and even down to a location like a monument), tags, ratings, and my favorite option the ten random photos.

To have the social experience, people would register with the website to rate, comment, and download (more on this later). The more you rate and comment the more points/score/etc your user account would acquire.

On the website you select your favorites. After selecting your favorites you have the option for a trip planner printout. The printout has thumbnails of your favorites and directions on how to get there.

I also had ideas like exporting your favorites out into Google Earth or directly onto your gps digital camera. I didn’t want to go much into that but more of the social idea around the camera. It is initially thought of to help newcomers and even novices to find the best shots.

I See…

Just finished reading some reviews online about PoP and they all seem to say the same thing. Here is a video review from XPlay. That way you dont have to do any reading. Just watch and go play!

Thoughts On Prince of Persia

December 27, 2008 · Posted in video game · Comment

This is my first Prince of Persia (PoP) game on any console. From what I’ve heard of the series in the past the game should leave me wanting more. Going into it I was excited to see what I have been missing as a gamer.

The concept of a regular thief having a beautiful princess fall him is always an easy sell. Who doesn’t see that happening to himself in the near distant future? The story is well told when you take the time to talk to Elika. In the end I am not sure if the ending provided me with enough willingness to buy the sequel. After you play through it Im sure you will start wondering why you just went through all that trouble for this.

The visuals are a great part of this game. In my mind Mirror’s Edge and PoP are very similar. They both have very bright and popping colors that seem to grab you. Deep down they are both a parkour game with a sheet over it’s head telling a story.

The gameplay for me is not there. It is very repetitive. Lets see you have a little cut scene, you find the right path, you fight for a minute using the same two combos over and over, you collect the light seeds, and you move on to the next section. The game is too easy. A difficult path is more of a sequence of button presses instead of a challenging/puzzling part.

There is absolutely no character advancement. You start off with prince A and you finish the game with prince A. He knows all the jumps, he knows all the combos, he even knows all your ex-girlfriend’s numbers! He has no story and that I find boring.

My conclusion for PoP is that the game should be played. If has a great story but moderate gameplay. If you could find it on sale or even just rent then I suggest that. You will love it for a couple hours in the beginning. As you progress you will appreciate the gamerscore that goes along with it more than the game.

A Gamer Bachelor Party

December 5, 2008 · Posted in idea, life, video game · Comment

When you hear the words bachelor party you think of guys being guys out at the strip clubs getting drunk. Particularly I am not a big fan of that idea. When I am with the guys all I want to do is get online and play some intense multiplayer. That is why I came up with this idea for my bachelor party.

First we start off with emailing Xbox and the Frag Dolls. We tell them the idea of a bachelor party open to everyone. Ask if they could just help supply Xbox 360s that in turn could be donated to Child’s Play Charity. All the profits would also go to the Child’s Play Charity too. I think having the Frag Dolls there would help the bachelor theme. Guys trying to beat them and its all for charity.

Next we find a place that could hold quite a bit of people. Get the word out in plenty of time. In the end everyone has a good time, Child’s Play gets a great donation, and in the end my fiance does not yell at me for touching.
